Intal Medication - Uses & Side Effects

Generic Name: Cromolyn sodium

Cromolyn sodium is an anti-inflammatory medication. It works by preventing the substances release in the body that may cause inflammation. Croolyn is a synthetic compound that is used to treat some allergic reactions. Symptoms and the signs of allergic reactions include chemicals such as histamine that are released from mast cells. It is a type of cell that found in the body as well as in the lungs, nose, and eyelids. Cromolyn medicine is used to prevent the release of chemicals from the mast cells.

Intal (In-tal) medicine is used to treat asthma. Intal contains sodium cromoglicate. It is made by sanofi-aventis. In asthma, Intal works by passing the air in the lungs. Intal also helps to prevent inflammation and to keep the airways open, making it easier to breathe. If you feel better and even you feel that your asthama is under control, do not stop to taking medicine without talking to your docotor.

If an attack of breathlessness or an asthma attack has started, then Intal will not give you immediate relief. So you should use your fast-acting inhaled bronchodilator to relieve an attack of breathlessness or asthma. Consult to your doctor if you have asthama attack.

Intal Dosage

  • The initially dosage should be 20 milligrams (1 capsule or ampule) and you should take 1 capsule 4 times daily at regular intervals using the Spinhaler turbo-inhaler or power-operated nebulizer. Intal's effectiveness depends on your taking it regularly, If you have chronic asthma.
  • You can also used the metered spray device, the usually dose is 1 spray in each nostril 3 to 4 times daily at regular intervals. Your doctor may say to use the spray 6 times a day if you need it.

Uses of Intal

  • Intal is act as a cell stabilizer in the body and used to treat asthma attacks.
  • Cromolyn is a synthetic compound that is used to prevent some allergic reactions.
  • It is also used as a nasal inhaler to treat seasonal allergic rhinitis (inflammation of the lining of the nose) and as an ophthalmic (eye) solution to treat allergic conjunctivitis (inflammation of the lining of the eyelids).

Side Effects of Intal

If you are taking Intal medicine, then possible side effects may occur. So before taking Intal medicine, consult to your doctor. Only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking Intal. Side effects may include:

  • Cough
  • nasal congestion or irritation
  • nausea
  • sneezing
  • throat irritation
  • wheezing

Warnings and precautions before taking Intal:

  • Do not stop taking this medicine immediately without talking to your doctor, as your asthma symptoms are likely to return.
  • If you feel wheezing right after using them, stop using this drug immediately and consult to your doctor. You can solve wheezing right problem by using reliever inhaler such as Ventolin a few minutes before using Intal, to help open the airways.
  • If you are taking Intal medicine, then gargling and rinsing your mouth and drink a glass of water after taking medicine, otherwise dryness of the mouth or throat or throat irritation may occur.
  • If you feel that your symptoms do not improve after taking cromolyn within 4 weeks or if your condition becomes worse, then consult with your doctor.
  • Your doctor can reduce the dosage or stop to taking medicine If you have liver or kidney problems.

Drug Interaction :-

Do not started to taking any drugs with the Intal medicine without talking to your doctor. Because it may increased or decreased, alter the effects of Intal medicine or it may cause to the serious effects. If you are taking other prescription or nonprescription drugs, discuss this with your doctor to determine if these drugs would interact with Intal.

Overdose

If you suspect an overdose, Contact to your doctor immediately. Symptoms of Intal overdose may include:

  • Difficulty breathing
  • heart failure
  • low blood pressure
  • slow heartbeat
