Cialis Medication - Uses & Side Effects
Generic Name:tadalafil
Cialis, or Super Viagra, is used to treat erectile dysfunction, more commonly known as impotence. A man is impotent if he cannot achieve or sustain an erect penis for sexual activity. Cialis (tadalafil), is an oral treatment for erectile dysfunction.
Cialis Dosage
- Doses range from 5 milligrams to 20 milligrams, depending on the drug's effect. The recommended starting dose is 10 milligrams.
- If you have moderate kidney impairment, the recommended starting dose is 5 milligrams once a day, up to a maximum of 10 milligrams once every 2 days. If you have severe kidney impairment or need dialysis, the maximum recommended dose is 5 milligrams once a day. No dosage adjustment is required if you have mild kidney problems.
- If you have mild or moderate liver impairment, your total daily dose should not exceed 10 milligrams once a day. If your liver is severely impaired, you will not be able to use Cialis.
Uses of Cialis
- Tadalafil is used to treat male sexual function problems (impotence or erectile dysfunction) by blocking a certain enzyme (phosphodiesterase-PDE5) in the body. In combination with sexual stimulation, tadalafil helps blood flow into the penis to achieve and maintain an erection.
Side Effects of Cialis
Side effects of cialis include:
- Headache
- Indigestion (dyspepsia)
- Dizziness
- Flushing
- Nasal congestion
- Back pain
- Pain in the muscles (myalgia)
- Eye pain
- Red eye due to excess blood supply (hyperaemia)
- Swelling of the eyelids
- Visual disturbances
- High blood pressure (hypertension)
- Low blood pressure (hypotension)
- Fainting (syncope)
- Chest pain
- Awareness of your heart beat (palpitations)
- Increased heart rate (tachycardia)
- Sweating
- Prolonged or painful erections
Warnings and precautions before taking Cialis:
- This medicine may cause dizziness and so may affect your ability to drive or operate machinery safely. Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how this medicine affects you and you are sure it won't affect your performance.
- If this medicine is taken with alcohol there is an increased risk of a drop in blood pressure that might make you feel dizzy. In addition, alcohol can impair sexual performance.
- This drug may make you dizzy or cause vision changes; use caution engaging in activities requiring alertness such as driving or using machinery. Limit alcoholic beverages.
Drug Interaction :-
If Cialis is taken with certain other drugs, the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. It is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Cialis with the following:
- Other impotence drugs including alprostadil (Caverject), sildenafil (Viagra), and vardenafil (Levitra)
- Erythromycin (E-Mycin, Ery-Tab, PCE)
- Grapefruit juice
- Indinavir (Crixivan)
- Itraconazole (Sporanox)
- Ketoconazole (Nizoral)
- Rifampin (Rifadin, Rimactane)
- Ritonavir (Norvir)
Overdose
Large doses of Cialis (up to 500 milligrams) resulted in similar side effects as regular doses. However, any medication taken in excess can have serious consequences. If you suspect an overdose, seek medical attention immediately.
