Photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) is type of laser surgery which permanently changes the corneal tissue shape of the eye. It is done through the ultraviolet laser machine with high precision.

In PRK the outer covering of cornea is removed called epithelium and after that a very small amount of corneal tissue is scorched via laser. Because of these process carried out the refractive index of cornea is corrected causing correction in vision. It provides the finest refraction.

It is one of the most highly developed surgical procedures where it provides treatment in very quick duration of time. In this different frequency of laser pulses are preferred without affecting the vision of the patient. The superficial layers of epithelium is burnt off and deep layers are if burnt are left as it is.

PRK is considered as one of the most reliable procedure for the correction of sight and refraction but one of the demerits of this method is that the recovery is very slow and during treatment process patient can feel some pain also.

In many developed countries PRK is very common with safe and proven results. As the PRK is very advanced technique one should also check his pocket before going for it.
